Job Description Overview:
Founded in 1994 by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, as a premium designer, marketer and wholesaler of sexy, sophisticated basics for women, Juicy Couture is recognized around the world as a leading contemporary brand of casual lifestyle clothing. The flattering, slender fit of the products, the exclusive distribution and the loyal celebrity following have all played an important role in shaping the brand. In 2003 Juicy was acquired by Liz Claiborne Inc., creating a unique and exciting partnership. Later that year Juicy launched men’s and children’s apparel and in 2004 Juicy Couture Accessories and Juicy Beach Swimwear. In 2005 Juicy Footwear, Juicy Eyewear and Juicy Timepieces were added to the assortment along with the exciting launch of Couture Couture, Juicy’s foray into a designer collection for Women. In 2006 the lifestyle brand was grown with the addition of the Juicy Couture Fragrance and Juicy Baby. Currently Juicy operates retail stores domestically, including flagship locations in Beverly Hills, San Francisco and New York, in conjunction with international partners throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Concent Designer seasonally designs and executes a concept presentation that reflects and reinforces the philosophy of Juicy Couture.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the creation of seasonal mood boards, selecting key images and relevant themes to be reviewed by Director of Concept.
• Oversee all aspects of presentation from boards, booklets, inspiration samples, reference materials to aid in the articulation of ideas and trend direction; Making presentations to Design, Sales and Merchandising teams.
• Create inspiring written seasonal summary to accompany concept presentation; must posses very strong creative writing skills, demonstrating a clear and witty use of language.
• Conduct seasonal shopping for inspiration, demonstrating an ability to shop to a brief, purchase relevant inspirational garments and present how they could be used to inspire Juicy Couture product.
• Possess full working knowledge of garment silhouette and fabrication for both top and bottoms, knit and woven categories; possess general knowledge of trim, embroideries, graphics, print and pattern, demonstrating an ability to spot trends, develop new fabric and trims to inspire and be used by the design team
• Possess general knowledge of print and pattern, Provide direction to CAD team to generate new artwork, create colorways and create and present print and pattern concepts.
• Constantly research catwalk, street and market trends and evaluate as they relate to Juicy Couture.
• Researching themes and ideas (not necessarily fashion) based on direction provided by Director of Concept, using a wide range of sources; Must be extremely resourceful.
• Maintain constant knowledge of current affairs from music, film and exhibitions, constantly exploring new source for inspiration, reporting on findings and demonstrating their relevance to Juicy Couture.
• Maintain knowledge of lines created by design team to ensure the final product line is cohesive and reflective of the initial concept; Provide recommendations regarding new and potentially missed opportunities.
• Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design.
• 4+ years related experience.
• Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, color ways, sewing techniques, graphics and trim.
• Good understanding of merchandising as it relates to sales and store environment.
• Computer skills: Microsoft, excel, photo-shop and illustrator.
