Job Description
Quality Assurance/Assistant Technical Designer reporting to the VP of Merchandising in Madison, WI. This candidate will be responsible to assist management and staff in all aspects of product life cycle, including assisting with technical sketching, measuring samples, fitting garments on live fit models and fit forms, evaluating product construction details and quality, bulk production grading, organizing and tracking samples, corresponding with both domestic and overseas vendors, following established policies, procedures, practices, requirements, and standards. Essential Position Responsibilities: –Work with the new designs to interpret the fit and balance; measure and make any adjustments based specification guidelines and fabrics –Responsible to make up the tech packs and send overseas for first samples –Advise factories what first production samples need to be sent to determine if approval for production –Advise distribution center if inspection needs to be done based on findings of first production sample –Reduce return rate due to quality issues and make recommendations on how to improve by adjusting specifications –Inspect garments against copy in catalog to ensure that incoming merchandise and material meet the company and vendor specifications –Communicate with Vendors and Buyers to resolve any issues regarding samples or shipments of samples –Generate quality and specification information and send to buyers for their approval; once approved, notify vendor okay to ship or reject bad pieces and send back to vendor through coordinator –Write product card and review with copy writer –Review, measure, and validate fit samples, and construction and stitching details –Communicate with domestic and international vendors and representatives regarding product specification and process information and issues –Evaluate garment appearance against fact sheet and catalog photos –Support research and screen new potential fit models –Organize, maintain, and purge samples, including from sample library –Learn and develop key insights on return rate analysis and technical problem solving, and how both effect our catalog and retail environments –Provide key information to catalog production department, and assist with reviewing and approving copy for print –Work closely with merchandising team Essential Experience: –Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of design, technical design, quality assurance or product development experience in similar or related field –Advanced knowledge of Art, design, merchandising or retail development operations, and related office software and hardware applications, equivalent to two years of college or an Associate degree –Computer experience ie: Excel, MS Word, and Outlook –Familiarity with garment specifications including fabric, color, packaging, and fit –Some basic knowledge of pattern making and garment construction knowledge would be ideal
