Job Description Director of Email Marketing

accessories has a position available for a Director of Email Marketing within the Marketing team. This

The Director of Email Marketing is responsible for defining and developing the email contact strategy
throughout the customer life cycle including acquisition, retention and re-activation. The person will
be integrally involved in all email budgeting, testing, monitoring, reporting, database research and
analysis in addition to customer file modeling activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for preparing and recommending a customer contact strategy primarily consisting
of email to meet sales and buyer targets while remaining within advertising constraints.
Develops contact strategies for both opt-in and opt-out customers.
• Originates customer tests, tracks test performance, and reports on test results. Revises action
plans based on test results and quantitative research.
• Maintains the customer performance metrics by recency and frequency segment and reports
variances to budget and plan. Recommends promotional/loyalty programs and other contact
options for each customer segment to address shortfalls to plan.
• Works with Information Technology and Business Intelligence teams to identify variables that
could be used in customer segmentation and clustering analysis.
• Helps identify email themes and messages that would be appropriate for pre-defined customer
segments. Selects the best customer segments to receive pre-defined e-mail messages.
• Responsible for the timely and accurate dispatch of all e-mails and other forms of customer
contact. Supervises the activities of the Email team responsible for the daily execution of all
emails.
Qualifications:
• BA degree
• 5-8 years of Direct Marketing experience with a concentration in existing customer
segmentation, ideally within the Internet and/or Catalog space.
• 2-3 years of experience in an email environment, with a thorough understanding of the
technical obstacles and opportunities associated with the medium.
• Demonstrates quantitative skills, particularly in the areas of test setup and analysis, customer
file modeling, and statistical approaches (e.g. regression) used in developing customer
segments.
• Experience in developing contact strategies over a 6-12 month timeframe, in order to meet
seasonal sales and buyer rate objectives.
• Good understanding of a Business-to-Consumer P&L statement, with an understanding of how
to identify points of critical leverage, to be used in setting existing customer sales and buyer
budgets.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in the area of translating quantitative research
findings into recommendations for developing creative contacts.
